John Lewis Voter Shabbat
Friday, September 20, 2024 • 17 Elul 5784
6:15 PM - 7:30 PMSanctuary*and LivestreamedOver the past few weeks, Beth Am volunteers (in partnership with other local volunteers) have completed more than 19,000 postcards written for Reclaim Our Vote (ROV)! Postcards are sent to residents of voter suppression states, targeting BIPOC voters. More must be written and mailed in early October to inspire and motivate citizens to get out and VOTE! Please stop by the Beth Am Pursue Justice table in the Sanctuary Foyer before the service to pick up a postcarding packet to take home and complete. Packets contain postcards to write, stamp and decorate for mailing in October.
The Beth Am community gathers each Friday night at 6:15 PM to welcome Shabbat. Our worship services are musical, participatory and informal in spirit; they focus on helping us experience the spiritual renewal, peace, joy and sense of celebration that Shabbat can bring.
If you attend virtually, please join the livestream starting at 6:15 PM. You may follow along in our texts for the Erev (evening) Shabbat service using the digital version (available for purchase) of the Mishkan T'filah: A Reform Siddur.
To enhance your enjoyment of Shabbat, please visit betham.org/shabbatcorner (including "Social Stories" in the Resource Box to prepare children ahead of time for what to expect during the Shabbat service).
*These services will be live video streamed. By entering the Sanctuary you give Beth Am permission to record you.
Registered to Vote?
We have arrived at the 2024 election season. Voter ballots will be mailed out beginning October 7. The Beth Am Pursue Justice team encourages us all to be sure that we are registered to vote, and to discuss voter registration with relatives and friends to ensure that they, too, are also registered to vote. Please visit vote411.org, the League of Women Voters site that enables you to check your voter registration status, register and find out what is on your ballot.
Our vote is our voice. Voting is a Jewish value. Learn more — read NCJW's Judaism and Voting Guide and Rabbi Dara Lithwick's "What's So Jewish About Voting."
