Emmy-award winning filmmaker Amanda Kinsey uncovered treasures while digging through basement archives in the University of Denver Library. Jews of the Wild West is the eye-opening result of her sleuthing.
Jews played a definitive role in shaping the expansion of the United States. In addition to names like Levi Strauss and Guggenheim, also featured are lesser-known figures, among them Solomon Bibo, a Prussian immigrant who became a non-Native American tribal leader, Josephine Marcus Earp, Jewish wife of Wyatt Earp, and Solomon Carvalho, a Sephardic painter and photographer who documented the territories of Kansas, Colorado and Utah in the mid-1800s. The film even includes the pioneering story of one of our Beth Am members.
Special guest Scott Gerber, the Bay Area’s Singing Jewish Cowboy, will add his voice to this uplifting program.
