Beth Am Men

Beth Am Men provides a forum for men to get together with other men in the congregational community to foster friendship, support and brotherhood, with a focus on service to both our congregation and the community at large.

Our goal is to draw men of all ages closer together, as a Jewish community, through activities which are always geared for maximum fun. Our mostly social events complement and support Beth Am's wide array of spiritual, educational and community service programs. From building the synagogue’s community sukkah each Fall to raising money for our community service projects; from breakfast discussions to softball and guys night out, we are open to any program idea, so long as you are willing to help make it happen. Join us and you'll see that this is where you belong.

Bar/Bat Mitzvah Gift Initiative: For each Beth Am Bar or Bat Mitzvah, a male member of our community is asked to deliver a tzedakah box gift on behalf of BAM.

Bike Rides: If road cycling is your thing, why not join BAM for a low-key Shabbat morning ride following Torah study? We meet at 10:15 AM most Saturday mornings directly across the street from Beth Am for the tours. These rides are open to all members of Beth Am.

Bridge: This is an opportunity to get to know other bridge players within the BAM community. Plan on a spirited game, to be held after the monthly Hot Topics Breakfast. Bring your bridge skills and join in the fun! These meetings are open to all members of Beth Am Men.

Book Group: Beth Am Men meet to discharge their sacred duty to read books! Past selections span a wide literary range and include The Frozen Rabbi by Steve Stern, An American Requiem by James Carroll, The Plot Against America by Philip Roth and What We Talk About When We Talk About Ann Frank by Nathan Englander. These meetings are open to all members of Beth Am.

Guys Night Out: Join Beth Am Men for a fun evening and escape your weeknight routine! Held quarterly at local establishments, this event is a time to join other guys for a fun evening of relaxing camaraderie, beer and food. These meetings are open to all members of Beth Am Men.

Hot Topic Breakfasts: Start your morning with good breakfast and a lively discussion. Monthly meetings are regularly scheduled for the fourth Tuesday of each month. We usually meet from 8:00 to 9:30 AM, but you can stay and schmooze as long as you want! These meetings are open to all members of Beth Am Men.

Photography Group: Whether you take your shots with a smartphone or DSLR, if you enjoy taking photos, editing photos and sharing your results or simply enjoy discussing photography, then join the BAM Photography Group. Meetings are held on the second Wednesday of the month at 7:00 PM with additional weekend events for outdoor photo shoot opportunities.  BAM Photo Group is for those interested in photography — from novice to most experienced — who come to learn and exchange ideas that enhance their enjoyment of photography. This event is open to all Beth Am Members. These meetings are open to all members of Beth Am. Check out a video about a Photography Group field trip to Treasure Island!

Project Build & Joy (PB&J): This project is our ongoing contribution to Beth Am's Equal Start Initiative, an effort to provide high-quality early learning opportunities for every child. We are building projects with our hands and with tools to help preschool children. The experience of building something for kids that have less than our own kids is not only super rewarding, but also a great way to get to know other guys and have fun. Join the list of joyful volunteer builders and hear about upcoming projects. This project is open to all members of Beth Am.

Softball: Everyone is welcome and there are no tryouts. Everybody plays! No glove? No problem! Come for the camaraderie and we'll supply the glove. We get together on select Sunday mornings in spring and summer months. These games are open to all members of Beth Am Men.

Sports Outings: Share your enthusiasm for our local sports teams by attending a game! Outings to games include San Jose Sharks, San Jose Giants and our annual trek to AT&T Park for the San Francisco Giants Jewish Heritage Night. These outings are open to all members of Beth Am.
