Reproductive Justice Is a Jewish Value
On October 27, Beth Am- Reproductive Justice Chairperson Sara Guido, in partnership with National Council of Jewish Women-San Francisco (NCJW-SF), held a Post Abortion Care Packing event, cosponsored by Beth Am Women. The event was held in an effort to provide our community with an opportunity to practice the Jewish value of Reproductive Freedom, and also to increase awareness of the importance of a woman's right to choose.
Antonia Lavine, Executive Director of NCJW-SF, and Rebecca Cormack, formerly of NCJW, were in attendance to help coordinate the event and take the kits for distribution. Rabbi Shoshana Nambi provided a blessing for Reproductive Justice and then together participants recited the Sh’ma. Approximately 25 volunteers from the Beth Am community came together and packed 300 kits of donated items, for later distribution at four Bay Area hospitals and clinics for women receiving abortions. Many of the women come from states surrounding California to receive these services which are no longer provided in their own states after changes to Roe vs. Wade.
This was the fourth care packing kit event sponsored by Beth Am. Another packing event is planned in February when Beth Am Teen Education Program participants will be assembling the kits as a social justice project. Please help us by making a purchase from our wishlist of an item to go into the care packages. Options include pads, heat packs, tea, wrapped candy and maxi pads. Purchases from the wishlist must be made by Sunday, February 9.
