Early Literacy Program 10 Books a Home is an early literacy program for low-income children in East Palo Alto and the Belle Haven neighborhood of eastern Menlo Park. Children receive two years of tutoring and mentoring while a parent sits in on their weekly lesson in their home to learn skills to make reading a part of their daily routine. Volunteers read, sing, play games, and teach basic pre-reading skills to kids ages three and four for an hour a week. Parents are encouraged to do these activities during the week between sessions. Kids also get a brightly colored bookshelf and 10 new books to start their home libraries. By the time they enter kindergarten, they are ready to learn.

Tzedakah Box
Judaism commands us to give to those who are in need. At Congregation Beth Am, we strive to fulfill that mitzvah. Each month, funds are collected through the Tzedakah Box Project to go to a charitable cause that serves the needy.
Read moreThe cause rotates each month between a local organization and one in Israel, or occasionally to an organization that supports recovery from a natural or man-made disaster elsewhere in the world. If you’d like to propose an organization to receive funding through the Tzedakah Box Project, please contact Rabbi Janet Marder. Close
