Last week, over 20 Jewish community centers and Jewish day schools in 12 states were evacuated due to bomb threats. The week before, 11 bomb threats were phoned in to Jewish community centers around the U.S. There were 27 bomb threats, coordinated on one day, January 18, at Jewish centers in 17 states, according to The New York Times.
The Jewish community needs to stand together against this hatred.
Jerry Silverman, the president and chief executive of the Jewish Federations of North America, said the rash of bomb threats are part of a disturbing trend toward normalizing hate speech. They are part of a broader “coordinated effort” to intimidate Jews. “We’ve seen this at Jewish community centers over the last year… [including] at Jewish day schools…[and] at synagogues.”
