March Tzedakah Box Supports Educare
Our March Tzedakah Box supports Educare California at Silicon Valley, a model early learning school and teacher training center located in the Franklin-McKinley School District in Silicon Valley. Education is the road to opportunity and the cornerstone of Silicon Valley’s innovation economy. However, there remains a persistent achievement gap in our region and state, which leaves many children unprepared for the demands of school and their futures.
Opened in 2015, Educare brings the kind of early education that affluent kids get to an impoverished neighborhood in San Jose. Currently serving 168 needy children ages 0-5 and their families, Educare comes at a time of high need as many low-income children, mostly from immigrant families, are missing out on preschool, according to a new study of the area by the nonpartisan research group, the Urban Institute. Educare makes certain that financially disadvantaged young children have the best opportunity for success in life. The school houses high-quality early learning classrooms, a family resource center, a satellite children’s museum, a career academy for high school students, and a professional development institute offering high-quality teacher training. Rigorous research shows that Educare works: the majority of their students enter kindergarten with the school-readiness skills they need to succeed. Your generous donations will help these young children to flourish.
Studies show that the learning gap for low-income children becomes apparent as early as nine months of age. Early language skills, as well as social-emotional development and school-readiness indicators, are powerful predictors for success in school and life. Extensive research also tells us that changing the first five years changes everything. We know what works to close the achievement gap: high-quality, intensive education interventions in early childhood delivered by skilled, trained teachers. Educare seeks to prevent the achievement gap from taking root in the early years of a child’s life by training Silicon Valley’s early childhood education teachers and professionals in scientifically proven best practices.
“Every dollar we invest in high-quality early education can save more than seven dollars later on – by boosting graduation rates, reducing teen pregnancy, even reducing violent crime.” – President Barack Obama, 2013 State of the Union Address. Learn more on their website.
