Gesharim Presents: An Oral History Workshop

With Basya Petnick, Journalist, Editor and Oral Historian

Why is narrative important in our lives and in Jewish tradition? What questions point us to the key gifts we might convey from generation to generation? How do we select words and images which best convey our life experience? Come learn how oral histories are created, and practice techniques you might use to create your own.

Basya Petnick, journalist and editor, is the former director of the Legacy Oral History Program at the San Francisco Museum of Performance & Design. She founded Books & Lives, which specializes in personal, family and community histories. Basya led a Beth Am Women Rosh Chodesh workshop on personal exodus stories, and conducted the interviews for the WRJ award-winning video about BAW Presidents.

Gesharim is a congregant-led initiative to support individuals and families facing the end of life. For more information, visit the Gesharim webpage. Or, contact Rachael.
